Nathan Elsbernd is a church musician who advocates for community-centered music. He devoted the early part of his career to subbing at various north and northeast Iowa congregations in order to get acquainted with a wide array of church communities. At Luther College, he focused his research on the intersections between community, hospitality, and hymnody. His principal organ teachers have been Gregory Peterson and Alexander Meszler. In addition to contributing as an organist, Elsbernd also sang in the college’s Nordic Choir, served as a collaborative pianist, and was a conductor for various church and school ensembles. He is a member of The Diapason’s “20 under 30” class of 2023 and will continue his studies at the Yale School of Music and Institute of Sacred Music this fall.
